You know that scene in Ghostbusters? The one with poor little Sigourney Weaver sitting in the groping chair, where Satan’s bear-dogs are clawing across the kitchen door, and you can see the claws scraping across the door? My daughter is performing an authentic recreation of this scene from within Cat’s belly. It’s utterly surreal.
We’ve felt pokes and such for the past, oh, 5 months. Boink… boink, boink. But recently, you can feel and see entire appendages go sliding across the belly. This is becoming very, very real.
Nursery’s getting close. You’ve already seen the “shelving”:http://coldforged.org/archives/2003/04/04/scallopbasedwallshelving.html, and last weekend I put up the crown molding. Norm Abrams I ain’t, but Cat pulled in a sweet save and did the caulking and paint touch-up while I was at work and it looks divine.
So, if nothing else, she’ll have a room to make Martha Stewart step off, perhaps. I know that’s what I personally aspire too.
Long time no talk about baby stuff. We had our final ultrasound today at our OB appointment. And… it’s… a girl! I know, we already said that, but this time it’s pretty conclusive. Last time it was more like “well, it certainly looks like a girl, and you can plan for a girl, but you never know.” This time we got a shot that Penthouse would be proud of, so let there be no doubt that this kid’s a girl.
And yes, the “training regimen”:http://coldforged.org/archives/2002/12/18/its_a.html is progressing appropriately, thankyouverymuch.

So, yesterday we had our ultrasound. What a wild ride that was. I won’t get into the various time hassles and other things that we went through in order to actually get this glimpse into the womb, since it all fades into irrelevancy after you get done.
I have to assume that you can kind of tell from the background color here what news we found out |
Baby update time! Monday we had another ultrasound, essentially for kicks and giggles. Bearing in mind that the last time we saw the bambino he/she was approximately the size of a midget bean, we were quite surprised at the amount of growth that happens in about a month. There’s a baby in there! The head was about 34mm across from side to side which, for you heathens, is about 1 1/3″. Over an inch! That’s unbelievable. So, we’re watching all this on the little screen and, I have to say, bambino was feeling the beat of the rhythm of the night, because he/she was groovin’ like Kevin Bacon in that movie where Kevin Bacon dances! You could see little legs kicking around, arms flinging hither and yon, twisting and turning. I fear for Cat when this guy/gal grows up a little bit more… the sheer intertia of this little thing is going to have her bouncing like a mexican jumping bean.
At one point the doctor got a perfect angle to see the heart, and wildly enough you could see all four chambers of this perfectly-formed little heart. You could see separation of the lobes of the brain, you could see little fingers and toes, legs, arms, shnoz. Everything but the wee-wee or lack thereof. Yup, still a mystery folks. That’ll have to wait for the next ultrasound.
So, without further ado, you can head on over to Cat’s Place and see some pictures from the ultrasound and, miracle of miracles, an MPG of the ultrasound showing the baby apparently hiccupping. Yeah, it’s amazing, ain’t it?
