Wow, Sony can’t help but jam their size 9s in their gullets weekly anymore it seems. Witness this prime quote:
“As you well know,” he continued, “the Xbox 360 doesn’t play high definition movies and doesn’t have true HD functionality – PlayStation 3 is the only format that has 1080-progressive, which is the true definition of HD, so it’s really premature to be talking about the HD era.”
To my mind, this means that all the people that bought Sony “HDTV” sets should file a class action lawsuit against Sony for false advertisement because, according to Sony’s own words, they aren’t really high definition. They were told they were high definition, they were advertised as high definition, but obviously they were mislead since the truth has now come out.
I’m all for hyberbole until it reaches the point of idiocy.

I meant sweet spot in the market, not “sweat” spot.
Sony is hurting. The PS3 is months away and the US and Europe are already passionate about HD gaming with the 360. They are trying to marginalize the 360’s HD capabilities, but it will not work. I am playing HD games at home with my 360. The PS3 could do no better. Therefore, the HD era started with the 360.
As for 1080p support, most game publishers and even Sony itself has stated that the target resolution for PS3 games will be 720p. Why, because only about .0001% of HDTV’s right now output at 1080p. They are going to develop for the sweat spot in the market, which is exactly what MS is doing.
Desperation from Sony…nothing more.
