An update on the enhanced views codeAn update on the enhanced views code

I realized that I haven’t updated you guys on the progress of my WordPress core code submission to integrate the enhanced views plugins’ functionality.

Posts

The Posts functionality is done. Here’s a screenshot of the new admin interface in action. You can see a bit of improvement over the existing plugin functionality.

Posts example

Here’s a list of improvements:

  • Reworked browsing functionality. Instead of buttons for each criteria, there’s a single button along with a quick Reset button that sets all buttons back to the default state.
  • A count of posts that match the current browsing criteria.
  • Now possible to sort by Post ID.
  • The same glorious paging functionality you’ve come to expect.

Comments

The comments functionality is done as well. Here’s a screenshot of it in action, from the “Mass Edit” perspective to show more of the improvements.

Comments Example

  • Mass Edit mode now has sorting by any column. May come in handy, may suck, but it’s there.
  • Similar count of comments that match the current viewing criteria.
  • Same functionality you’ve grown to love from the plugin.

Pages

Working on it. To be honest this is the least “pageable” due to the intrinsically hierarchical nature of pages. I’ll have something and the WP developers can take a look and see if there’s anything that can be done differently.

Timeframe?

The WP developers are currently shooting for a May 3rd date for 1.5.1, but that’s merely a target. It’s doubtful that, even were I to complete it and submit it today, they’d want to include a potentially destabilizing enhancement at this stage in the game. For that matter they might decide they don’t want to include it at all. So, I can’t give you a timeframe for when you see this in the core. I can say I’m getting close to wrapping it up, so that’s something.

Digg!

So is this EVER going into a WordPress product???? It HURTS to not have more functionality in the Manage Posts panel. Really HURTS!

Will you at least update the plugin for use in WordPress 2.0 or give it to us on Wordpress.com??? Oh, please, oh, please, oh, great one!
