Speed Typing Test

How fast can you type?

Note that this is an uncorrected test that doesn’t account for typing errors, so don’t friggin’ cheat. It’s been a long time since I tested my own typing speed. Hell, I don’t even know if I’ve ever had my typing speed tested to be honest. I never even think about how I type but now that I actually slow it down a bit I see that for the most part I use 4 fingers — whacka-whacka-whacka, wink-wink, nudge-nudge — the pointers and the middles with the thumbs getting in the act for spaces and the pinky keeping the shifts happy. Oddly I apparently even use my left ring finger at times to hit that far “a” when the rest of the hand is ranging… like on ranging, actually. How utterly weird. Oh and then there’s the goofy control key usage: the left pinky curls so I’m actually holding it down with the top of the first knuckle, but on the other side I use the pinky pad. My Mom — the 90 WPM touch-typist extraordinaire will disown me.

So, final number: average of about 72 WPM with few mistakes. That’s better than I figure I’d do. Now I need a speed typing test for code, because sure as shit in spandex I spend 90% of my typing hitting funky stuff like ampersands and curly braces. You can’t measure that stuff, yo. I’m keeping it real wit da unda-skizores.

Geez, I thought my 93 was a good score. Kudos, Mr H!

My Dad had a secretary that could sustain 120 wmp. She would lock up an IBM Seletric (the one with a spherical hammer) on occaision.

Rank #200 on the alphabet site. 2.731 iirc :) . I can consistantly get 115-120 wpm with no errors on these test first or second try, without practicing them any.
