UPDATED: Version 2.8 released 11/14/05. Download now!
NOTE: Please note that this plugin doesn’t support Wordpress 2.3. However, you can find a wonderful remake here that does.
Yay! After a lot of work, the new version of the Image Headline Plugin is available. This plugin was originally written by Joel Bennett but it’s come a long way since the beginning. New features in this version include:
- Excellent integration into the WordPress 1.5 Strayhorn administration interface.
- Gorgeous anti-aliased, soft shadows.
- Easier than ever to configure.
So, if you’re ready to take a gander, go on and tell me what you think. If you do end up using the plugin, please leave me a comment here with a link to your site so I can see the results! I’d love to see what you guys come up with.

Just following up on my previous problem. I tried the default font, it worked for quotation marks but still rendered a square for 3 points like… that. A font that I used in my previous template “Dauphin” worked beautifuly but doesn’t really match the current one. I opened them all up in a font editor and they all had the needed characters with the same utf coding and so on. I’m not sure why that font didn’t work so I’ve disabled it on the titles but I’m still using the plugin for my sidebar headings.
Thanks for that - it was a lot easier to change a bit of code to get those siebar headings rather than make pictures and upload them and change the code.

Hi, ColdForged !
Really nice plugin.
Unfortunately, with some special symbols (like éàç…) I obtain the same rectangle than kristarella noticed.
I use a very good font, and even if i switch to the default font, the rectangles appear. I have also tried to turn off all the other plugin, but it didn’t work either… :-/
Any idea ?
Is it possible that the encoding of my page (utf-8) is a problem here ?

I absolutely LOVE this plugin - it is a amazing - I just have one question - My titles look so pretty, it makes my header look so plain - is there a way to implement it for Headers? I am not a total novice but am by no means “well-versed” in code - I read that you wrote about installing RunPHP first in order to do this, but is there a way you could talk a semi-idiot through it? Much much much appreciated if you can…

Typically this is the font. Try the default font that’s provided with the plugin and see if that works. If that doesn’t work, it’s possible that another plugin is “texturizing” your titles before they hit this plugin. I turn off the default title texturizing in the plugin (at the bottom there’s a “remove_filter()” call) but some other plugin might jump in and re-enable it.

The plugin seems to be working but some punctuation characters, particularly quotation marks are not working, a rectangle is rendered instead. Is this a problem with the plugin or the font? I checked to see if the font had the quotation marks in the tff file and it appears that they are there.

for those who are trying to get this to work in the K2 Style, as far as I can tell you have to modify the actual K2 theme file “theloop.php” Do as the author here says, change
thetitle();
into
thetitle(’-image-’);
and it should work on posts. To get it to work on static pages, make the change in the “page” theme file.

This is a great plugin, ColdForged. I’ve just implemented in my blog this days and it’s working pretty right… except for this error, which I report in case someone it’s getting the same behaviour.
Warning: getimagesize(): Read error! in /home/chs/retroklang.com/home/html/wp-content/plugins/image-headlines.php on line 623
I’ve fixed the some of the post’s titles and they work great. Some examples:
“Historias de un cocinillas” displays the warning, but if I remove the final “s” (”Historias de un cocinilla”), it works fine.
“Receta: Magdalenas de arándanos” not, but “Magadalenas de arándanos” yes (removing the beginning “Receta: “)
I have long titles in some titles, like “Patrimonio mundial (10): Puente Transbordador de Vizcaya (España)”, and they are working fine. So, the length of the title doesn’t seem to be the problem.
Finally, I’ve changed the ttf file. I’ve been using the Gainsborough type and I’ve installed now the FontleroyBrown type, so now all the titles are working correctly… or it’s seems so, cause I’ve not checked them all… yet.
The problem it’s that the user installs some ttf file and although it seems to be working right, maybe some post’s titles don’t get correctly, and as fast as the blogs grows, it’s more difficult to check all the titles.
Thanks,
Ferre

Hi. At one point I successfully installed Image headlines, sadly I have been unable to do so again. At the moment I am getting blocks of colour rather than the font (no matter what font I attempt to use).
I may have changed the setting on the option page, however I do not know how to get the default settings back. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the plugin but the messed up settings still remain
I really really want to use this plugin. I will watch comments and keep working at it. I know it is something lame I screwed up somehow

I tried using the plugin yesterday at my website but it didn’t work properly because of accents/special characters — I speak Portuguese.

Is there any way to fix that? I’d love using Image Headlines.
