UPDATED: Version 2.8 released 11/14/05. Download now!
NOTE: Please note that this plugin doesn’t support Wordpress 2.3. However, you can find a wonderful remake here that does.
Yay! After a lot of work, the new version of the Image Headline Plugin is available. This plugin was originally written by Joel Bennett but it’s come a long way since the beginning. New features in this version include:
- Excellent integration into the WordPress 1.5 Strayhorn administration interface.
- Gorgeous anti-aliased, soft shadows.
- Easier than ever to configure.
So, if you’re ready to take a gander, go on and tell me what you think. If you do end up using the plugin, please leave me a comment here with a link to your site so I can see the results! I’d love to see what you guys come up with.

Thank you soooo much for this plug in! I designed a website using Wordpress as the CMS for a wedding planner and I didn’t want to use images for the page titles because they wouldn’t be dynamically inserted or updated, but your plug in makes the site look so much more polished, all without sacrificing the benefits of a dynamic site!
Thanks

For those getting the 404 error message with WP 2.0, I have a solution. The zip file doesn’t have the correct directory structure that the tar.gz does (linux bias coldforged? j/k)
When installing, put the image-headlines.php file in the wp-content/plugins directory. The .ttf file needs to go in the wp-content/image-headlines directory (that you have to create). Activate the plugin, then the “Options” link should go to “options-general.php?page=image-headlines.php”

Thanks for writing this plug-in - I love it. I’m currently testing it out for post headlines and also for category page titles. My problem is some of my categories have the character ‘&’ in the name, and this is being rendered as ‘&’ - I’ve been searching around for a solution, but can’t find anything (that I can understand anyway) can you please describe a simple way to overcome this, or point me in the right direction?
Thanks again …

Hey! Amazing plugin you have here! I was just wondering where you have to upload the font you want to use? You have only said “upload to your server” but do you upload it to your root directory or your theme file? If you look at my site (http://static.heartbomb.org) you will see what the headers say. They say, “The server is missing the specified font.” But I don’t know where to upload it to so I think this is why it is saying this. I hope to hear from you soon with your reply.
Thankyou.

I’ve been using Headline Images successfully for quite a while. It works great. Usually.
Today, for some unknown reason, images are no longer being created for the headlines. I have made no changes to my Wordpress installation since the last time I posted.
I’m open to suggestions as to why this might have happened and what to do to fix it. My site now looks sucky because 1/2 of the headline images are missing. It would take a fairly major re-do to eliminate this plugin as I use it extensively in my template. So I’d really like to get it working again.

Hi Lena. Unfortunately I don’t know what could possibly be wrong in your install. I don’t run a 2.0 WordPress installation, so I don’t know what the differences are that would affect this. Have you tried asking this question on the WordPress support forum?
Hi Oliver,
There’s no “easy” way to do it in the plugin right now. It is actually possible and I’ll certainly consider it for future revisions.

Hi Brian,
Is there any ‘easy’ way to center-align (as opposed to left-to-right) the rendered text? Could this feature be in a future release?
Thanks so much for all the work you already put into this fantastic plugin!
All the best from Munich!

Hello!
I´ve been trying to install your great plugin but it doesn´t work. I put it in the wp-content/plugin directory and activated it. When I clicked the Headlines under Options I got this:
Not Found
The requested URL /4me/wp-admin/image-headlines.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Have no idea what I´m doing wrong. My webhost uses version 4.3.11 och PHP if that helps.

Currently experimenting with this - but I think it’ll become a nice part of a theme redesign I’m working with.
