There are some people in the world utterly incapable of understanding the English language. This is obvious, of course, but must be said. Bear in mind that these people are also reputedly capable of speaking in this tongue, but actual comprehension of, you know, text is beyond them. Take my dire warnings in this post, for example. I simply have to assume that most of you — at least those not from Detroit — have no problem discerning the intent of the LARGE, BOLD TEXT on that page, yes? The implication being that if you link to that precious little dancing banana from your snappy forum signature, it will not work. You may be temporarily fooled into thinking it works since it’s in your browser cache, but everyone else on this lovely orb will see a broken link.
Until today. I figure if I can’t cajole them into not deep-linking my images, I can embarrass them into not deep-linking my images. So instead of getting this excitable fellow as they so desperately desire

I simply love htaccess redirects. Personally, were I to figure out that that image was showing up in my sig, I’d change it quicker than you can say “can so!”. How about you guys?
I mean, new ones pop up damned near every day. Take a look at the referral logs… see all those “bite.html” entries? That was my old redirect. I was sorely tempted to make it link to something truly rude, like a gleaming anus or something. But I think this is a tad more subtle, and quite possibly more effective. Some people may prefer to have a sphincter in their signatures after all.
